Spotting natural phenomena in movies

In the world of science fiction or fantasy not everything is completely fictional. You will often see natural phenomena portrayed in the movies because it can help to create an amazing backdrop. The Northern Lights, for example, look amazing. Anyone who has ever seen them in real life will know that they would not look out of place as an ‘alternative’ skyscape for a different planet in a science fiction movie.

For years the people of Scandinavia and other countries with far northern regions wondered what are the northern lights every time they saw these amazing green lights transforming the night sky. It is not unusual to see them in films that are made in Scandinavia and other parts of northern Europe.
Quite often they just form a dramatic backdrop that sets off the storyline perfectly.

The Northern Lights, which can be seen from thr IceHotel in Sweden, are not the only natural phenomena that can be spotted in movies of all genres. Others, such as solar and lunar eclipses, meteor showers and gigantic waves have all featured in movies, particularly in disaster movies such as Deep Impact. And anyone who lives in the Southern Hemisphere will be pleased to know that there is a Southern Lights phenomenon, often seen in Tasmania.
